Default How to find system resource usage for Shared Hosting ?

I am on shared hosting and my hosting provider recently suspended saying that I used 50% of their system ram. I from my site haven't hosted anything just normal websites. Is there any way I can find system resource usage from my side ? I am on shared Cpanel Linux Hosting.

If you have any tips kindly help me.

There are tools for you to see server status in Cpanel (this feature only shows you the statistics of the server your currently on, no details on your accounts usage), the details on the memory usage of your account are only for the viewing pleasure of your hosting providers administrators.

Ask your hosting provider to send you some logs on your account to pin point the issue, its very difficult to use "50%" of a servers ram unless it was for a reason in which you didn't read the TOS to be approved to do so.

My 2 cents.

Hope it helps you figure out how to resolve your problem.

They will never want to show us the logs, I think it's the best way for hosting providers to get rid of old paid accounts if they are over loaded. What I would like to suggest people is never ever pay for yearly prices and never ever go for yearly accounts. It's just not wise and you'll regret someday paying for yearly.

Actually, most hosts don't have a problem showing you the logs as it will back up their claim, if the claim is legit, and with most hosting providers it normally is. It is hard to use that much resources, unless it is a low end server. Also, if your using Ruby on Rails or anything with the CGI-bin they tend to use a lot of resources and sometimes "hang" causing excessive resource usage. Usually hosts will work with you to find out what the problem is so you can fix it, as hosts don't want to loose clients, no matter what you think. If they are overloaded it is because they are horribly oversold and you shouldn't be with them anyway. Most hosts oversell, and if done right it is a very good business strategy, but it requires close monitoring and the ability to determine the probability of a client using all or most of their "allocated" resources, as well as leaving 15-25% of the server free in case of spikes by a site due to something being digged or an increase in popularity. What kind of site do you run?

Edit: I agree with the not paying for a year in advance. I don't even offer that option, save for a few clients (locals and after long time clients) due to the fact its not an option chosen frequently (about 2% of my clients have requested it, and I only know of a few people that want to do that with a host they have not been with for more than a year or 2). It is also not a very good option as it attracts fraud orders.
